Launch of Coronary OCT Book for Interventional Cardiologists on World Heart Day

It was a proud moment for Dr. Sridhar Kasturi and the KIMS-SUNSHINE Hospitals team as we launched of a groundbreaking new textbook on interventional cardiology. The book “Coronary OCT – A Case Based Approach” authored by Dr. Sridhar Kasturi, HOD & Senior Interventional Cardiologist at KIMS-Sunshine Heart Institute was unveiled on World Heart Day to coincide with the hospital’s commitment to advancing cardiovascular care.

Dr. Sridhar Kasturi is a renowned expert in the field, has written the book to provide a comprehensive resource for interventional cardiologists worldwide. The book covers a wide range of topics, providing valuable insights into the latest procedures, techniques, and advancements in the field. By reading this book cardiologists can access a wealth of information in one convenient location.

About the Coronary OCT Book:

Current evidence based on recently published studies suggest image guided PCI over Angio guided PCI is associated with improved outcomes, and it is the need of the hour to all interventional cardiologists to know about intravascular imaging to maintain high standard health care practice to provide the best possible outcome to their patients. Image guided PCI is very useful in the pre PCI assessment of plaque, deciding appropriate plaque modification strategy, and sizing of balloons and stents. Post PCI optimization of DES is mainly to identifying and rectifying edge dissection, under-expansion and apposition which are associated with acute and long-term outcomes. OCT due to its high-resolution 3D images helpful in detailed assessment of vessel wall characteristics – type of plaque, plaque burden and identifying vulnerable plaque which is prone for plaque rupture, dissection, and intra & extra mural hematomas. OCT also differentiates intraluminal masses like thrombus (red & white), recanalized thrombus, CN, stent struts, position of guidewires (abluminal position, in relation to stent struts (proximal Vs distal strut crossing) and entrapped broken balloon shafts, guidewires and other intravascular foreign bodies which are very helpful in optimizing PCI results.

  1. This book illustrates many case-based detailed descriptions of Angio and OCT images with attached video files for a comprehensive understanding of the concept of intravascular OCT imaging while performing coronary interventional procedures.
  2. The authors took extreme care in choosing cases to narrate the importance of OCT imaging in assessing plaque morphology, lesion length, and diameter for each case to use an appropriate pre-PCI modification strategy.
  3. Moreover, it highlights the importance of detecting medial edge dissections and malapposition to improve future DES implantation outcomes.
  4. Emphasizes the usefulness of imaging in various complex high-risk

The launch event was attended by many cardiologists and esteemed colleagues of Dr. Kasturi, including Dr. Shailender Singh, Dr. S. Vijay Kumar and Dr. R. Rajaram. Their presence and support underscored the significance of this new publication.
